International Mass Spectrometry Foundation
2026 Thomson Medal winners
for outstanding lifetime achievements in mass spectrometry and distinguished service to international mass spectrometry
Professor Gary L. Glish
University of North Carolina
Gary Glish has made transformative contributions to mass spectrometry through pioneering instrument development. His work enabled major commercial platforms and helped establish LC-MS and tandem MS capabilities now central to proteomics, metabolomics, and countless analytical applications. Alongside his scientific achievements, he has provided exceptional service and mentorship including ASMS and the broader MS community, shaping both the field of instrumentation and the next generations of researchers.
Professor Richard A. J. O’Hair
University of Melbourne
Richard O’Hair is an internationally recognised leader in gas‑phase ion chemistry whose pioneering work has reshaped our understanding of biomolecular fragmentation, organometallic reactivity, and MS‑based mechanistic analysis. His contributions span radical chemistry and gas‑phase studies of catalytic intermediates, supported by an exceptional publication record, and major national and international honours. Further, he has provided distinguished service to MS societies, including the ANZSMS, and trained more than 50 researchers who now contribute to the global mass spectrometry community.
IMSC 2026 - France
We are excited to announce the 26th Biennial International Mass Spectrometry Conference. This event will be held in Lyon, France from 22 - 28 August in 2026. IMSC2026 is co-organized by the French Society for Mass Spectrometry (SFSM), the SFSM Youth Club, the German Society for Mass Spectrometry (DGMS), the DGMS Young Scientists Group and the Swiss Group for Mass Spectrometry (SGMS). IMSC 2026 Updates
8th International Mass Spectrometry School, Sardinia 2027.
The 8th International Mass Spectrometry School 2027 (IMSS 2027) is a six day school aimed to give a high level education in fundamentals, advances, instrumentation, and applications of mass spectrometry to graduate, PhD and post-doc students, and others working in industries and in different institutions in the areas of chemistry, biosciences, food, environment, and medicine.
Organised with lectures, exercises, poster and oral sessions by students, workshops, problem solving sessions and social events, the school joins together participants from academia, public and private research centres and industry, and it is a useful occasion for allowing meeting of students and top level tutors coming from different countries and for creating new links and networking.
